I would like to join the Arborealists because I am fascinated by trees and forests and the various ways they can be used, by artists, as a mode of self expression.

I have been drawing and painting in Epping Forest for the past 25 years, having lived on the edge of this forest for most of my life.

Light and shade have been my preoccupation for much of this time; the challenge of depicting sunlight shining through foliage and shadows on a forest path have been particularly  engrossing.

More recently I have added to this the immersive experience of being in the woods.  I have been influenced by Degas in this respect. His deep foreground settles one  into the landscape.

Presently I am making work that includes movement and temporality.

Strolling through the forest; glancing g from side to side and sketching as I go… then, back in the studio, developing these sketches  into large graphite or pastel drawings, or smaller, more intimate, oil paintings.

I am busy organising an exhibition in The Art Pavilion in Mile End Park, London. 34 artist from a group known collectively as Creative Bloc, centred in E11,   are exhibiting their work and it has been an inspiring project. I am enjoying organising this event, but more, the excitement and enthusiasm it has generated.
