Andrew Halliday Statement

Supporting Statement - application to Associate Membership of The Arborealists

Throughout my life as an artist I have always found trees to be part of it. I've sketched singular specimens or a whole bunch. Each time I do I feel I'm taken somewhere else, some place where I can think 'properly', where my mind works at a pace that it should. The woods are where all things matter.

Finding The Arborealists was a joy. It confirmed that there are other artists who take the experience of trees as vitally important as I do. The range of exhibitions and publications by the group is impressive for what is still a relatively new movement of creatives. I was thrilled to witness the show The Quietness of Feeling at Portsmouth Museum last year, and am grateful to the museum for giving me the opportunity to conduct outdoor workshops with Generate, the local group for those with dementia and their carers.

I'm a big fan of YouTube, a really inclusive and instructive platform. As its sphere of influence is wide I would like to assist in increasing the group's visibility here. Maybe there could be opportunities for live stream events or studio / on-site multi disciplinary workshops?

To be an associate member would be a huge privilege. It would cement my resolve to encourage and promote all aspects of nature protection; to convey concerns for our environmental future and to celebrate the beauty and inspiration that trees particularly provide.

Many thanks for your time.

Regards

Andrew Halliday
