When Claire was young she realised how important trees were to transforming an environment when witnessing several elms being felled around her home. Now she lives next to a  small wood and its power, sound, majesty and beauty entered her work through the love of this cluster of trees. Claire uses a limited palette to explore recessive colours, sometimes intensifying or inverting them while striving to retain equilibrium and capture the essence of the trees and their environment.

Inspiration comes from the Norfolk landscape on her doorstep, poignant memories, dreams and from current affairs such as climate change. Claire’s main objective is to represent the importance of trees in our natural world and our relationship with them.
